Use of Longer Valves with Yella Terra Platinum Rockers – Pedestal and Bolt Requirements

When fitting longer valves to a Holden cylinder head, it’s essential to consider the resulting change in valvetrain geometry. The use of longer valves increases the installed valve height, which directly affects the rocker arm’s fulcrum point and alignment with the valve tip and pushrod.

To maintain correct rocker arm geometry—specifically, the angle at which the rocker contacts the valve tip and pushrod—longer rocker pedestals must be used. These pedestals elevate the rocker arm mounting position, compensating for the added valve length and helping to preserve the correct sweep pattern across the valve tip. Improper geometry can lead to reduced valve lift, premature valve or guide wear, and reduced valvetrain efficiency.

In conjunction with taller pedestals, longer mounting bolts are required to ensure sufficient thread engagement and secure clamping of the rocker arms. Standard-length bolts will not provide the necessary engagement depth when used with extended pedestals, potentially leading to loosening or thread damage under load.

For optimal performance and reliability, Yella Terra recommends using appropriately sized pedestals and bolts specifically matched to the increase in valve length when installing their Platinum Series rockers on Holden cylinder heads.
